NAILS: George at Asda Gel Pro Polish

So it seems that every cosmetics brand under the sun have created a Gel collection and I’m more than happy to keep testing them all 🙂  I’ve tried out this Gel Pro range from George at Asda which retail at £3 per bottle.  I’ve swatched 4 colours here (the ones I thought most appropriate for this season) however there are 15 colours (including a clear top coat) to choose from.  Price-wise £3 is pretty darn good, but does that mean a compromise on quality?  Not really in this case.  There are a few bug bears I have with some of the colours and I wish that there had been some more ‘Spring/ Summer Trend’ colours added into the collection (i.e. a lilac, a grey, a white) but all round it’s a good polish.
First of all we have ‘Classic Pink’ which actually is more of a bright coral.  The colour is great, it looks pretty opaque even just one coat (although I did add a second just to be safe).  The glossy finish is certainly more adequate than their standard polishes but the drying time isn’t as swift as some others like the Collection range.  My problem with this colour is that it did require hefty amount so f polish remover and effort to get rid of the staining that it left on my nails and fingers but sometimes you do get this with this kind of colour.
Next up is ‘Pink’ which is a very girlie candyfloss pink and again I did 2 coats of this, but no staining or issues with removal one this one so thumbs up to that!
The nude colour in this range is ‘Beige’ and I did actually add 3 coats of this one to really get that opaque, non-streaky block nude shade and I hope you’ll agree, it’s gorgeous!  It’s so subtle yet with a super high gloss, perfect for everyday wear especially if you work in an office (where no crazy nails are allowed, Boooo!).
Lastly, you can never have too many red polishes so I tried out ‘Red’ (C’mon Asda please be more creative with your names).  Now this one was really, really impressive.  I got the desired colour and gloss from just one coat, yup, one coat!  I thought I may have issues with staining like with the ‘Classic Pink’ shade but no issues there.  I kept this one on for a few days because I loved it so much and I even put it on my toes.  4 days ahead and zero chippage and still super glossy!  This one would be my absolute must-have if you feel tempted to try one out.  For £3 I really would say that these polishes are pretty good, perhaps not great for morning applications as the drying time isn’t the fastest but certainly a thumbs up from me on gloss and durability.

NAILS: Nails Inc Colour Pop Art

As it’s almost Easter we can totally go to town with the jazzy candy coloured nails.  This Nails Inc 2 in 1 Colour & Pop Art polish (RRP: £14) is perfect for those of you who hate ‘Plain-Jane’ nails.  In a different packaging than we’re used to seeing from the traditional little round pots of Nails Inc colour this 2 in 1 ‘wand’ or ‘stick’ includes a plain hot pink polish ‘Knightsbridge Place’ in one end and a top coat with confetti style glitter ‘Sloane Street’ in the other.  It’s very pretty and girly, and I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I think it’s perfect for Spring and lets face it, it’s a bit of fun.  There are also 2 other colour ways in the range (see below).

NAILS: Models Own ‘Speckled Eggs’

Errrrr I need to buy mini eggs as a “prop” for my new post….any old excuse!  Oh it’s that pastel shaded, sugar coated time of year again and with the arrival of the mini eggs also comes this amazing collection of Models Own nail polishes: ‘Speckled Eggs’.  Now around this time last year Illamasqua brought out their version of these and as much as I love Illamasqua, by jeez were they expensive!  So round of applause for Models Own who have created a £5 version, hurray!  We’ve got 5 shades to choose from, ‘Goose’ which is a mellow yellow, ‘Dove’ a cheeky pink, ‘Magpie’ a minty green, ‘Swan’ a creamy lilac and of course ‘Duck’ a cornflower blue.  As with all Models Own polishes they are fantastic; great coverage and fast drying….and they look like mini eggs, so what more could a girl want?  I applied 2 coats of the polish to get the effect in my swatches below.  You can bag these awesome polishes at your nearest Models Own Bottleshop now and they’re included in the mix ‘n’ match for £20 so you could get all 5 shades and an extra polish to treat yourself for £20!  They’ll also be available to buy from the Models Own website and Superdrug from March 12th and at Boots from March 19th.
Go forth and Speckle!

NAILS: Lola ‘Tangerine Dream’

I recently received this Lola nail colour in a goodie bag from the M&S High Summer Press Day.  The colour; ‘Tangerine Dream’ is the perfect shade for this season!  These polishes retail at £8 each from M&S which is pretty standard for a good quality polish.  If you check out my swatch below you can see the colour and shine that you get from this polish.  It’s a great colour for the Spring/Summer seasons and would look great on toes!  It is a high shine polish but it doesn’t quite have the super glossy finish to some of the gel polishes that are currently available, that said, you could always pop on a layer of Seche Vite to give extra shine.  I used two coats of this polish to get the desired opaque colour I wanted.  Don’t be put off by the lid either, like a Chanel polish that bulky top part comes off and you can use the brush with a much easier standard top.  The brush worked well on application but the best thing about this product is the consistency!  At first I thought it was quite watery but as soon as it touches your nails it just sticks.  This was one of the easiest manicures I’ve ever done and dried within only a couple of minutes (with no tackiness) and I would certainly be eager to try out some of their other colours.  If you’re looking for a quick glossy manicure then I would highly recommend this polish.
