Summer Staples

My last look in collaboration with George at Asda is just a laid back, everyday summer outfit.  It’s very simple but the printed culottes speak for themselves and add some detail to the look.  Culottes have been the ultimate summer staple this season and the good news is they’re hear to stay for AW14 too.  Obviously if you’re not much of a heels-wearer then you could substitute those for some flat sandals but you know me and my heels!  I hope I’ve opened your eyes to the world of George this week as there are some great pieces in their collections and next season looks equally as promising.

Oversize

So we’re on Day 2 of my takeover with George at Asda and today I’ve gone for this rather slouchy, boho vibe.  This over-sized floral shirt is perfect for layering over jeans or leggings if you’re that way inclined.  The print is so pretty and perfect for this season and best of all the shirt is chiffon and bat-winged…thus meaning lightweight and airy on the old armpits (oh yes!).  These boyfriend jeans are some of the best that I’ve seen on the high street as they really are a boy fit, none of this high waisted ‘mom’ fit nonsense.  They come as full length jeans but I’ve turned them up so I could pop on  pair of heels and just polish the look slightly.  I don’t go anywhere without keeping a pair of flats with me so these super-comfy jeweled sandals are perfect for a quick change in this summer heat when one feels the need to dash up and down the tube escalators.  Please note, I don’t partake in this kind of activity for fun, I’m just always rushing to get somewhere

Ahead Of Time

I‘ve already begun collecting my new AW14 wardrobe and in a slightly eager attempt to jump ahead to next season, I wore a jumper (Topshop) in 30 degrees.  It wasn’t smart and it wasn’t funny.  The trousers on the other hand (another AW14 purchase from Topshop) are perfect for this weather, the wide leg allows, errrrrrr, air circulation? Mmmm, yes, air cirulation!  They are my favourite culotte-esque length and they could well be a runner for a Fashion Week ensamble (Who knows!).  Now me mustn’t forget these monochrome shoes because they are might fine for a price tag of only £39!  Well done Miss Selfridge, well done!

Floral Grid

I‘ve always had a thing about stripes and florals.  Every time I wear something floral I instantly find myself search for a striped piece to fit into the ensemble somehow.  I got these floral check dungarees from Missguided last week and have been waiting for a slightly cooler day to wear them.  They are a lightweight fabric but with this heat I need to be wearing the bare minimum amount of fabric.

River Island Christmas 14 – My Alternative Lookbook

Kind of like the alternative Christmas message, this is my alternative Christmas Lookbook for River Island.  I was invited by the River Island press team to spend the day in a studio whilst they shot their Christmas 14′ Lookbook, the twist being that I was going to shoot my own version.  As we all know, Christmas just seems to sneak up on us so talking about this in July isn’t all that ridiculous really.  So what’s in store for us this Christmas from our fave high street store I hear you ask?  Well, faux fur is an absolute definite, bling in ample quantities and lets not forget that knitwear.  It may sound like a textbook Christmas collection but you really need to see it to appreciate it in all it’s glory!  Today I’m off to the official press day so catch my updates and constant over-excitement by following me on Instagram (@emmhill).

Bag + Scarf….straight on that wish list!

The skirt is THE dream…no really, it is!

White Russian anyone?

‘Don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got (or don’t got), I’m still Emma from the block’

Now THAT is a knuckle-duster!

Yeh ok, she might look better than I do, but she’s got a damn hat on.  Yeh that must be it…mmmm

Did someone say parrrrrrtay?!

In The Fringe

Who says you need to be festival bound to wear a cocktail of crochet and fringing?!  I spotted this incredible top on a member of Topshop staff in the Oxford Street branch last week and dragged my friend Charlotte off in search of it.  It’s pretty pricey (£65) for something that is essentially made of holes but it does have leather patches all over it which have clearly bumped up the price.  It’s got great movement in the long fringe trim and is light enough for hot summer days so all round a perfect summer staple!

Lace On Leather

I feel another bout on monochrome-itis coming on!  Don’t get me wrong, I love colour, but there’s something so easy, perhaps even lazy about black and white.  It’s effortless, chic and is easy to shop for.  I am somewhat of a reverse magpie when it comes to shopping, I’m instantly drawn to monochrome pieces, but hey, it worked for Chanel.  I’ve added some texture in today’s otherwise rather simple look.  These textured faux leather shorts from ASOS are slightly nappy-esque in fit but I do love a good old paper-bag waist line and they do the trick here.  Taking a tip from Britney Spears circa 2008 and her hit (hmmm?) ‘Lace and Leather’ (no, it’s not just you, no one remembers it), I paired said shorts with this beautiful longline lace jacket sent to me from Quiz.  Voila!  Another two-tonal outfit is born.
