Lace Love

Sorry for the lateness of today’s post but I was out shooting it in Knightsbridge this afternoon, yet again in the blistering London heat…hence the iced Starbucks in hand!  This lace bralet from Topshop had a lot of love on Instagram so I thought I’d use it in a post to show you how I would style it.  I do have a few other outfit ideas in mind with it and hopefully i’ll be able to don those before the summer is out!

Floral Grid

I‘ve always had a thing about stripes and florals.  Every time I wear something floral I instantly find myself search for a striped piece to fit into the ensemble somehow.  I got these floral check dungarees from Missguided last week and have been waiting for a slightly cooler day to wear them.  They are a lightweight fabric but with this heat I need to be wearing the bare minimum amount of fabric.

Summer In The City

I don’t think I’ll be the only Londoner to be moaning about the heat right now.  Friday was an absolute sweaty wash-out for me.  I went to Shoreditch to the Ace Hotel for an awards brunch with Asos Fashion Finder and Urban Outfitters.  The temperature got up to something crazy like 34 degrees, and normally I’d be enjoying the heat, but when your in London it’s not so enjoyable, especially when it comes to our public transport (always crammed under someone’s sweaty armpit…vom!).  I wore this cute new season coord from New Look as I knew it would keep me as cool as I could get because of the lightweight fabric.  It’s fair to say I lost the jacket half way through the day as the heat was just too much.  In the evening I was treated (By Claires Accessories) to an amazing open air concert to watch Sam Smith perform in the courtyard at Somerset House.  Again this was the perfect casual outfit for a gig!

Day ‘n’ Night

The maxi dress, a great summer staple and also a great day to night piece!  I was sent this gorgeous snake print maxi from Missguided to style as day to night.  I used to think maxi dresses were a bit of a ‘cheat’ when it comes to fashion because there’s not much to do with them, they are in themselves an outfit.  However over time my thoughts have changed and playing around with the styling during this post I came up with so many options.  For my ‘day’ look I chose this Missguided washed out black denim jacket and threw a basic white tee on over the dress (to hide that low v!) and knotted it at the side of the waist to give some shape.  I’m not much of a flats girl so I have heeled chelsea boots on but you could add some kind of biker boot or even a flat sandal or gladiator as a flat option.  My ‘night’ look is simple; the dress, killer heels and a leather jacket thrown over my shoulders.  In this case, the dress, and that neckline can do all the talking!

River Island Christmas 14 – My Alternative Lookbook

Kind of like the alternative Christmas message, this is my alternative Christmas Lookbook for River Island.  I was invited by the River Island press team to spend the day in a studio whilst they shot their Christmas 14′ Lookbook, the twist being that I was going to shoot my own version.  As we all know, Christmas just seems to sneak up on us so talking about this in July isn’t all that ridiculous really.  So what’s in store for us this Christmas from our fave high street store I hear you ask?  Well, faux fur is an absolute definite, bling in ample quantities and lets not forget that knitwear.  It may sound like a textbook Christmas collection but you really need to see it to appreciate it in all it’s glory!  Today I’m off to the official press day so catch my updates and constant over-excitement by following me on Instagram (@emmhill).

Bag + Scarf….straight on that wish list!

The skirt is THE dream…no really, it is!

White Russian anyone?

‘Don’t be fooled by the rocks that I got (or don’t got), I’m still Emma from the block’

Now THAT is a knuckle-duster!

Yeh ok, she might look better than I do, but she’s got a damn hat on.  Yeh that must be it…mmmm

Did someone say parrrrrrtay?!

In The Fringe

Who says you need to be festival bound to wear a cocktail of crochet and fringing?!  I spotted this incredible top on a member of Topshop staff in the Oxford Street branch last week and dragged my friend Charlotte off in search of it.  It’s pretty pricey (£65) for something that is essentially made of holes but it does have leather patches all over it which have clearly bumped up the price.  It’s got great movement in the long fringe trim and is light enough for hot summer days so all round a perfect summer staple!

Lace On Leather

I feel another bout on monochrome-itis coming on!  Don’t get me wrong, I love colour, but there’s something so easy, perhaps even lazy about black and white.  It’s effortless, chic and is easy to shop for.  I am somewhat of a reverse magpie when it comes to shopping, I’m instantly drawn to monochrome pieces, but hey, it worked for Chanel.  I’ve added some texture in today’s otherwise rather simple look.  These textured faux leather shorts from ASOS are slightly nappy-esque in fit but I do love a good old paper-bag waist line and they do the trick here.  Taking a tip from Britney Spears circa 2008 and her hit (hmmm?) ‘Lace and Leather’ (no, it’s not just you, no one remembers it), I paired said shorts with this beautiful longline lace jacket sent to me from Quiz.  Voila!  Another two-tonal outfit is born.
